We are the Solution   Leave a comment

Let’s get this straight

In a world that’s overweight and overwrought, and overspent

With food and drugs and shopping sprees

Running from dark clouds not overhead

But from inner dread

Digesting all the news we’re fed

At every turn another unexpected thing

Turns us back to overcoming suffering

Not withstanding truth

The unbeliever’s soul

Sinks deeper in its hole

Appearing pretty

Feeling shitty

The stench no cologne can quench

What shall we do

I’ve heard it said

I can turn your head

But I cannot make you look

If you read me to the end

Please do not pretend

That this is mere exaggeration

Our world is whirling towards its predetermined destination

And we have heard in one way or another

God’s solemn invitation

To seek and serve in the light of spiritual solutions

Get off your butts and your whatevers

And stand back from the cliff

Neither food or drugs or shopping sprees

And countless other maladies

Will assuage the guilt and shame

Let love have its day

To hold our hand through all the terror of discomfort

And even if you still refuse to believe

Love is sure to at least instill you with her peace

And that’s a place we can begin

To extend a hand and greet each other

Not with fists and fear but with a smile and a kindly word

Spoken in a time of need

A verse that has no need to be rehearsed

For the Spirit of Truth and Love is always at the ready

From What I See   2 comments

In a world that sometimes seems so overcrowded

We get a glimpse of our minuteness

And then we see through eyes of known eternity

That even in this selfsame world

Lies still its vastness and abundance

Precious Petunia the Pit   2 comments

After walking Petunia one morning – I took a seat on the third step of the staircase in our home while Petunia sat on the floor before me – Leaning over, my arms crossed, to rest on my knees, I surveyed more closely her moist, red and swollen paws … my heart full, ideas spent, praying what to do.

My partner Lisa, and I had exhausted all we knew — Vets, medicine, sprays, baths, and even boots that only contained the bacteria and prevented healing from the burns caused by her abuse as a six month old puppy.

It was then, Petunia, licked my toes, that overlapped the soles of my sandals, and held me with the gaze of her warm golden eyes. Like a spotlight in my mind that tethered hers to mine, I felt her say, “I need sandals, like yours, when I go out and play.”

That made sense — her pads would be protected and her feet would have air to heal.  It was then the journey to find the special shoe maker began and led us gratefully here…

A Force of Nature   2 comments

From a pine-covered sanctuary under thunderous rolling rumbling skies I see

The moving waters forceful press against the reeds

Surrendering to the mounting steady breeze

The wildlife has disappeared

Wing-ed ones no more in flight

And earthbound creatures shiver in the shadows of their cover

In the west the skies a luminescent azure blue

Face the drape of a dark gray curtain closing

A butterfly erratically in motion

Life threatened by the coming rain

To it, one drop, a murderous moist-filled boulder

Everything on earth is good

Except when confronted with extremes

The storms … they seem to be

The mirror of our pain, and our affliction

Yet clearing quiet summer skies

Adorned by sun-swept radiant clouds

Pronounce with vibrant vigor our Creator’s majesty

Over all this world’s temporal adversity

It is only what you sow

In the space of time you are given

That determines what is next …
