Faith is the Substance of Things Hoped For …   Leave a comment

It is wise to question one’s direction

And to be open for suggestions

But never leave home without a destination

For those that wander

Do get lost

And can be a hazard to those whose path they cross

Without a goal we squander opportunity

While standing still to contemplate

Choose to pray or meditate

This is productive waiting

Letting patience do her work

Setting sights with hope

To live fully in the now

Seeking Spirit’s strength to foster faith

Hope renders the potential of what promises to be

An exciting new adventure

Productive Waiting   2 comments

While I am waiting I will stay as busy as can be

I’ll stay and wait

Or stand and wait

Or walk then run then sit again

And sleep and eat between

Maybe write a book

Or see a picture I can snap

I’ll take a course

Learn something new

But all the while be waiting

I’ll not forget to pray

And remember to acknowledge

That while I wait I’m not alone

And although I cannot live tomorrow

To hold it in my memory

For tomorrow lives somehow within

Of the promise of what’s to come

While I live this day with gratitude busily awaiting

You can float — And you can fly

And even walk if the ground is dry

Your very presence offers me

Reminders of endless possibilities

What is this Life but a Vapor … (James 4:14)   1 comment

There is so much noise out there

Vying for our attention

How do we — How can we

Hear what Inner Spirit has to say

And have our voices heard above the fray

Beware a counterfeit call to action

That may only serve to be a distraction

‘Together We Can’

A well-worn phrase

Rests on wisdom’s page

Taming rage and poisonous resentments

Unified we can burn with new desire

Create new healthy appetites to inspire

With a welcome message that includes all at the table

Matters not if you’re well or able

But what matters first is our willingness

To feed first another

Perhaps astounded we’ll discover that this recipe for empathy

Will relieve our own hunger-pangs and inner grumbling

The greatest offering and hardest one might be

To include those we might deem our enemies

We cannot pray for just ourselves

Or those we love, or like, or haven’t even met

But those we do not love, or like, and haven’t met

Must be met with good intentions just the same

This is as Jesus said the harder thing to do

Yet isn’t what we seek universal harmony

The hope of good for all

Of course there will always be

Self-seekers, ruinous people, and their lies

Beware association and remember to be wise

Even with patience and forgiveness as our lifelong friends

From some people or situations it’s best we be divorced

For love cannot be forced

Noise erects buildings with flimsy sticks soon to turn to dust

Our voices are what will last

Recorded in every listening ear and knowing heart

Then archived for a time beyond this place for which we are set apart

I must seek to choose each word and deed

As though it is the only currency I have to spend

I guarantee the tide will one day turn

And in the silence of mid-tide will come the answer

Racism, criticism, and every other ism yet defined

Will be, can be, must be

Overcome … not left undone

For another generation

Powerless yet powerful

Dependent only upon

The One who made us

And can save us

On the condition of our free will

Which is why we must turn our trust

To the Creator and the Creative that lives in each of us

And with courage take a stand

And if for whatever reason you cannot stand

You can and you must support the ones who can

I don’t know what the day will hold

But I know that God will hold me through the day

Receive, Retain, Release   2 comments

Thank you Lord for Your word

Your precious word that I have heard

To receive it as my own

Your word, this gift, hidden in my heart

Jealous for the day’s arrival to expound

Upon the Spirit swelling

Overflowing with great and precious promise

No mortal can alone contain

Your wisdom, comfort, love, and faith

Without expression as useless as a boat without an oar

Your voice, my rudder, Your Spirit, my oar

Becomes a mighty vessel to carry seeking souls to shore

March On   3 comments

In this New Year – I overstretched – literally – Yoga postures accompany my three week routine at the gym but on January 1, I tested the boundaries of my limberness to a painful degree. I have since had acupuncture, massage with cupping, and tomorrow will see a chiropractor – Everyday I recount my gratitude for this being only temporary and for the gift of a more acute compassion for those who suffer greatly. Yesterday, I may have over-did it again in the Women’s March here in Sarasota, walking two miles over the Ringling Bridge. I don’t regret one uncomfortable step. I witnessed women in wheel chairs, walking with canes, and even reflected on those who suffered the cruelty of the holocaust. I know that out of pain comes great reward when we turn to garner its lessons for others to pave a better way for the future – And that is where we all are today, aren’t we? To care, to love, to trust, that all things work together for good for those who love God — At all times there are opportunity – if I see my situation as such – And seize it to be part of a greater solution for all – And in all things and in all ways to be thankful and act with love – to serve is a gift – to stand by idly only serves to block the way – So, to get out of the way we must get in the flow of service –

Words of wisdom, comfort, and truth that feed my soul and are medicine for my body – As we know worry is one of our greatest enemies – May these healing words prosper us all each day to live in thankfulness, with joy, ready to serve, sharing with one another.

How often I reflect on these words of Jesus that were written by the Apostle and physician, Luke.

Thank you Jesus – thank you Dr. Luke 😉

From the Gospel of Luke Chapter 12

24: “And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?”

35

“Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, …”
