Knowing Where My Home Lies   1 comment

How happiness can be curtailed

By the sudden notion of its temporariness

How families once united must each go their own way

That nothing in this world can stay

In any sort of constant state

Oh grievous heart now heavy sinks

When all at once acknowledging

This is not my home

Do not here relax and think

That this is all there is

Oh God with strings from heaven

Lift my heart to Thee

Where angels sing and love and joy is born anew in each and every moment

Where eyes are fixed on only You

For this is why I know

That to You my heart belongs

And for You, I live a foreigner

On this plain till work is done

With love to give me breath each day to carry on

What it Takes to Keep Ducks in a Row   1 comment

Oh God you have been my go to — in between and during — all of this life’s demands
And now I find myself discontent while searching emails, browsing Facebook, Instagram, or text
How quickly … how quickly … how quickly I suddenly forget
That the info that I need to look for are the messages from You
The Holy Spirit that guides all that I seek to know and need to follow
The wonder you have bestowed in nature … here and now before me … almost begging to be seen and be acknowledged
And above all, with gratitude aplenty, be a vessel overflowing faith and love and peace that comes from simply seeking You

What to Do with the News   Leave a comment

So let’s talk about the news

The kind you overhear or what you choose

All is, and all can be

A sacred opportunity for positivity

It is free will to walk according to The Way

To enliven our mind

To open our hearts

To raise up our voice

and EMPOWER OUR WORLD

To PRAY PRAY PRAY

So, God, I pray

When I hear Your Spirit say

This is your battle to fight

This is your heart to mend

That I will respond humbly encouraged

To gratefully always say YES

A Grateful Heart   Leave a comment

Dear Lord each day I wake and profess my thanks

By habit is it now

But never let it be I pray

By rote, a box to check

And forget to thank you from my heart

For the ability to see, to hear

To wake and walk upright

To hold another’s hand

To gaze into their eyes

To thank you for our lives

Faith is the Substance of Things Hoped For …   Leave a comment

It is wise to question one’s direction

And to be open for suggestions

But never leave home without a destination

For those that wander

Do get lost

And can be a hazard to those whose path they cross

Without a goal we squander opportunity

While standing still to contemplate

Choose to pray or meditate

This is productive waiting

Letting patience do her work

Setting sights with hope

To live fully in the now

Seeking Spirit’s strength to foster faith

Hope renders the potential of what promises to be

An exciting new adventure

Sustaining Peace   Leave a comment

I didn’t read the news today … oh boy
I breathed in peace and exhaled joy
I resisted temptations to be drawn by news alerts that quite often make me sad
Words intended to engage and then enrage

Instead I hoped for the discipline of a better habit
To draw upon more earnestly each morning’s offering of Divine Good News
To not only sustain me for what the day may bring
But to feed souls and give good reason for hearts to sing

I read good news today … oh boy
It wasn’t about what we’re against but what we are for
Engendering peace … preventing war

Productive Waiting   2 comments

While I am waiting I will stay as busy as can be

I’ll stay and wait

Or stand and wait

Or walk then run then sit again

And sleep and eat between

Maybe write a book

Or see a picture I can snap

I’ll take a course

Learn something new

But all the while be waiting

I’ll not forget to pray

And remember to acknowledge

That while I wait I’m not alone

And although I cannot live tomorrow

To hold it in my memory

For tomorrow lives somehow within

Of the promise of what’s to come

While I live this day with gratitude busily awaiting
