Hibiscus   Leave a comment

Who on earth could create such a thing as this
“No one,” said the creature we have called hibiscus
The One who lives in all that breathes
Who lives among us and far above us
Made me for all to see
To witness our Creator’s majesty
To know that we are loved
You call me hibiscus
But God calls you Most Precious

You can float — And you can fly

And even walk if the ground is dry

Your very presence offers me

Reminders of endless possibilities

There is Only One   2 comments

The colors in the sky are too many to name and varied beyond belief

We try to memorize or duplicate to rekindle for relief

You leave us with indelible impressions everywhere

Water is Your mirror providing for our pleasure and our needs

You are water, You are light, You are the air we breathe

Without any part of all of You nothing could survive

But mere existence is not Your aim

We are made for Your delight, and to delight in You

To love when days are dark or light

To trust that once and for all

You are for one … and for all

With eyes fixed on Your magnificence

Our hearts burst forth with what becomes uncontainable and clear

That the breath of our lifeblood is in our acts of love and care

And to acknowledge that You are with us at all times and everywhere

Living by Our Daily Bread   Leave a comment

When we truly care about what we may have stored in faith

Our material desires seem to become far less

For the Spirit requires that we travel light

Unencumbered by our yesterdays

And not living for tomorrow

Before I could put another letter on this page

A young man walked into the store

Shoulder length matted dreadlocks, mustache, and a beard

The uncustomary looking customer asked for a cup of water please

In what felt like time stilted slow motion I complied

Finger nails black with residue

Hands so soiled too

Holding up coins, he offered an exchange

Can I give you my pennies for a little tea?

Oh no I said – The samples here are free

Refreshed by the herbal that I offered

 This twenty something fellow said

Oh this must be hibiscus, and thanked me at the door

Turning, smiling broadly, he added a parting word

Only yesterday I ate hibiscus, picked fresh from a tree

Like John the Baptist in the wild

This young man might have been

A 21st Century apostle

Or an angel in disguise

March On   3 comments

In this New Year – I overstretched – literally – Yoga postures accompany my three week routine at the gym but on January 1, I tested the boundaries of my limberness to a painful degree. I have since had acupuncture, massage with cupping, and tomorrow will see a chiropractor – Everyday I recount my gratitude for this being only temporary and for the gift of a more acute compassion for those who suffer greatly. Yesterday, I may have over-did it again in the Women’s March here in Sarasota, walking two miles over the Ringling Bridge. I don’t regret one uncomfortable step. I witnessed women in wheel chairs, walking with canes, and even reflected on those who suffered the cruelty of the holocaust. I know that out of pain comes great reward when we turn to garner its lessons for others to pave a better way for the future – And that is where we all are today, aren’t we? To care, to love, to trust, that all things work together for good for those who love God — At all times there are opportunity – if I see my situation as such – And seize it to be part of a greater solution for all – And in all things and in all ways to be thankful and act with love – to serve is a gift – to stand by idly only serves to block the way – So, to get out of the way we must get in the flow of service –

Words of wisdom, comfort, and truth that feed my soul and are medicine for my body – As we know worry is one of our greatest enemies – May these healing words prosper us all each day to live in thankfulness, with joy, ready to serve, sharing with one another.

How often I reflect on these words of Jesus that were written by the Apostle and physician, Luke.

Thank you Jesus – thank you Dr. Luke 😉

From the Gospel of Luke Chapter 12

24: “And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?”

35

“Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, …”

Angels on Earth   Leave a comment

The cats are getting fat

While the dogs are fighting for scraps

When I think that things just aren’t fair

I consider those unable and in despair

We may feel at times we’re fighting for scraps

Just to be heard or to be fed

As I maneuvered down the street today

Nice car, leather seats, six-speaker stereo

Hugging the curb just up ahead

A young guy, thirty-something

Had a wheelchair for his ride

I shifted in my seat

And rearranged my thinking

If there be any hunger

Let my Spirit find its fill

With a much needed dosing

A perpetual overflowing

Never ending, always willing

Never forcing, always wanting

Fruit of love and gratitude

Then, and only then

Will peace and all Her blessings flow

To fill the need of every seeking soul

Reborn, renewed, refreshed

Now enabled to be the savior we are seeking

And receive the gift of selfless giving

To be someone’s angel here on earth

… And behold, it was very good   Leave a comment

We are so different in so many ways

Beautiful, refined, elegantly designed

If ever an adjustment needed to be made

It would only be in our perception
