Growing Closer to God   2 comments

Oh Lord I Pray

That while I feel as though sometimes confined within the bud

I trust in You with all my heart and incline to you my ear

To listen with faithful waiting

Ever ready for when You call

Without sight of what tomorrow holds

I trust that You are near

And thank You for a glimpse of Your presence here

Peace in What’s Inevitable   Leave a comment

Parting with desired outcomes

Making peace with what is

Not with what should be

According to me

According to many

According to millions

Power in numbers

Is not nearly as great

And never will equal

The Power of God

Our Sovereign Lord

The Lover, Creator, and Leader of All

Pray Without Ceasing   Leave a comment

I wrote this a few months ago but today I believe it it is most apropos —

Let’s get this straight

In a world that’s overweight and overwrought and overspent

With food and drugs and shopping sprees

Running from dark clouds not overhead

But from inner dread

Digesting all the news we’re fed

At every turn another unexpected thing

Turns us back to overcoming suffering

Not withstanding truth

The unbeliever’s soul

Sinks deeper in its hole

Appearing pretty

Feeling shitty

The stench no cologne can quench

What shall we do

I’ve heard it said

I can turn your head

But I cannot make you look

If you read me to the end

Please do not pretend

That this is mere exaggeration

Our world is whirling towards its predetermined destination

And we have heard in one way or another

God’s solemn invitation

To seek and serve in the light of spiritual solutions

Get off your butts and your whatevers

And stand back from the cliff

Neither food or drugs or shopping sprees

And countless other maladies

Will assuage the guilt and shame

Let love have its day

To hold our hand through all the terror of discomfort

And even if you still refuse to believe

Love is sure to at least instill you with her peace

And that’s a place we can begin

To extend a hand and greet each other

Not with fists and fear but with a smile and a kindly word

Spoken in a time of need

A verse that has no need to be rehearsed

For the Spirit of Truth and Love is always at the ready

Sticking Close   Leave a comment

Oh God, why do I stray

When I know You always know the way

Leading to peace, and joy, and life

The source of strength for challenges unknown

The days of infancy are frail and vulnerable

And cannot be made alone

Now grown am I and need You still

And desire You even more

Knowing that without You near

I am still so frail and vulnerable

With More than Words can Adequately Express to be Thankful For   Leave a comment

This image of Provincetown Harbor is one of my favorites. Taken just after sunrise on a not too long ago, jeweled September morning — Apropos for this Thanksgiving Day; the place where the Pilgrims first landed. Provincetown has been an inspiration to me and countless others all those years since the Mayflower made its way to its shore. There is an engraved plaque in the woodland near Pilgrim Heights that stands next to a babbling brook to mark the spot where the first settlers at last, finally found fresh drinking water. The plaque reads “…. And they were heartily glad” — The scene I picture is these ragged travel worn settlers on their knees refreshed and renewed by  their life-giving drink and saying in their heartily glad words…Thank you God! 😉

My prayer of thanks for this day:

 Lord You refresh my faith

And make me new, day by day

Each day different than the next

Thank you that You are here to lean upon

A place of endless rest

Oh why do I waver so

And worry endlessly

When you, at the right time, answer my prayers constantly

Refashioning my doubt and fears

To become tools to help another

I see this all so clear in hindsight

So I thank you God for your grace

You who are here and now, and promise life forever

You whose hand has formed me

First from earth’s soil, to be born in body and soul

Your miracles and love are never ending

And You remain a constant source of strength

Like rushing mountain water falling

You soothe my soul in darkened days of wavering faith

Preparing me to be born yet again like a new sun rising

Feeding me with hope anew

Oh Lord, To You I Surrender   Leave a comment

Do I steer my will away from Yours?

Guide, direct, so I might  be at peace with You

You, who is all in all, and all I surely know

This is the greatest truth

You are the great I AM

Creator God above all most high

It is to You I cry for help and understanding

My hope lies with you

My heart cries like the strings of violins

That solemnly vibrate at the stroke of the musicians bow

We sing and we weep for You

To hear us and know our song

It Is for You, and only You

My heart is heavy laden with

The trust You placed in me

To speak Your truth and share Your love

In spite of my own plans and fears

I offer You my truth with tears

Please wipe away all that would keep me from deepening my love for You

Petunia’s latest update due to the unparalleled love and dedication of Noah’s Ark Rescue’s medical team –
–Thank you friends for your prayers, love, and support – “We are their voice”
~Our sweet girl is doing incredible. The worst is over for her and now it is just a matter of time before all or most of her hair grows back in. All of the infected areas have dried up and she no longer has to have any more debriding sessions. It is hard to believe it has taken five weeks to get her to where she is today. She is no longer on any pain medication and her bloodwork is totally stable. Our sweet little girl is slowly blossoming into a beautiful Swan. In another month, you will not even recognize her. She will remain in the hospital to stay on top of her care to make sure she does not go backwards. She is still getting special baths every other day to keep her comfortable and is showered with unconditional love and all the hugs and kisses she can stand.

Thanks for helping us with her medical bills and being there when she needed us most. Without you, none of this would be possible. THANK-YOU from the bottom of our hearts and the bottom of sweet Petunia’s pink little toes. ~
