Productive Waiting   2 comments

While I am waiting I will stay as busy as can be

I’ll stay and wait

Or stand and wait

Or walk then run then sit again

And sleep and eat between

Maybe write a book

Or see a picture I can snap

I’ll take a course

Learn something new

But all the while be waiting

I’ll not forget to pray

And remember to acknowledge

That while I wait I’m not alone

And although I cannot live tomorrow

To hold it in my memory

For tomorrow lives somehow within

Of the promise of what’s to come

While I live this day with gratitude busily awaiting

Growing Closer to God   2 comments

Oh Lord I Pray

That while I feel as though sometimes confined within the bud

I trust in You with all my heart and incline to you my ear

To listen with faithful waiting

Ever ready for when You call

Without sight of what tomorrow holds

I trust that You are near

And thank You for a glimpse of Your presence here

The Veil is Torn   Leave a comment

Come to know and to expect the Spirit working in quiet wondrous ways

For angels are always in your presence

Be alert and compassionate seeking how to please

You are precious and valued beyond your imagining and in My constant

 loving sight

There is no need to be guarded with Me

For what you try to conceal will only try to steal your soul

My love cannot be borrowed or purchased

It is a free will offering

To be received and returned willingly

By faith you are healed

By grace you live

By mercy you are forgiven

And the scars of your history are healed

By the forgiveness you allow

Broken hearts give sight to the sufferer

For the cost of true compassion is dear

See Me … for I am always here

In seabirds, sunsets, white capped waves

And in the mirror of your self examination

What is this Life but a Vapor … (James 4:14)   1 comment

There is so much noise out there

Vying for our attention

How do we — How can we

Hear what Inner Spirit has to say

And have our voices heard above the fray

Beware a counterfeit call to action

That may only serve to be a distraction

‘Together We Can’

A well-worn phrase

Rests on wisdom’s page

Taming rage and poisonous resentments

Unified we can burn with new desire

Create new healthy appetites to inspire

With a welcome message that includes all at the table

Matters not if you’re well or able

But what matters first is our willingness

To feed first another

Perhaps astounded we’ll discover that this recipe for empathy

Will relieve our own hunger-pangs and inner grumbling

The greatest offering and hardest one might be

To include those we might deem our enemies

We cannot pray for just ourselves

Or those we love, or like, or haven’t even met

But those we do not love, or like, and haven’t met

Must be met with good intentions just the same

This is as Jesus said the harder thing to do

Yet isn’t what we seek universal harmony

The hope of good for all

Of course there will always be

Self-seekers, ruinous people, and their lies

Beware association and remember to be wise

Even with patience and forgiveness as our lifelong friends

From some people or situations it’s best we be divorced

For love cannot be forced

Noise erects buildings with flimsy sticks soon to turn to dust

Our voices are what will last

Recorded in every listening ear and knowing heart

Then archived for a time beyond this place for which we are set apart

I must seek to choose each word and deed

As though it is the only currency I have to spend

I guarantee the tide will one day turn

And in the silence of mid-tide will come the answer

Racism, criticism, and every other ism yet defined

Will be, can be, must be

Overcome … not left undone

For another generation

Powerless yet powerful

Dependent only upon

The One who made us

And can save us

On the condition of our free will

Which is why we must turn our trust

To the Creator and the Creative that lives in each of us

And with courage take a stand

And if for whatever reason you cannot stand

You can and you must support the ones who can

Nothing Hidden   Leave a comment

There is nothing on this earth or in what we call universe or multiverse

Where You are not

Like smoke and embers rising from the fires of an almighty molten core

Or the mist that covers the earth each new morning born from the waterfall of Your love

Everywhere and in everything You are

The smoke of your fires seep under the sill of my door

Its threshold useless to prevent You

Sitting here, waiting, knowing You are here

You cover me in a blanket warm

Surround me with Your love

Your Spirit a refreshing mist

Bathes me, washes over me

Caught between what is mortal and immortal

I observe the surrendering of self to Thee

Understanding that free will is necessary

To bow in complete surrender

For all that You require

Is a free will offering

Of my love and my desire

The Rosetta Spoonbill and the Photographer   Leave a comment

I will allow you to come near

And trust you will not intrude

Although your contraption looks absurd

You stare and speak with kindly words

You say you’re fascinated by my plumage and my bill

Our Creator gave me a lifetime lasting covering

With this wonderful added utensil

For I can forage, and I can fly

I can prune my wings and in this warm sun stand here and dry

What of you, oh two-legged creature squatting there

With that thing raised to your eye

Covered almost head to toe

You must have something to hide

From the Land of MoreOrLess   Leave a comment

There was a decree that went all throughout the land of MoreORLess –

For the inhabitants to become more self-less

In order to accomplish such a lofty goal

The King charged his court

To come up with a plan

The King’s voice was gentle yet firm

It is time for the people to learn

You are all so rich yet so spiritually poor

My subjects seem only interested in more

This has to change if you are to survive

The King’s Court wondered how on earth to get this done

And realized that two or more is better than one

How to get the King’s subjects to give up their plenty

Would take a village or at least a committee

The Chancellor was appointed to assemble the group

But all whom he asked cast their eyes down with a frown

With the paltry excuse that they were previously engaged

This caused the Chancellor to become frustrated then enraged

His countenance grew as his temper rose

He shook his fist without haste and said in that case

If you won’t volunteer, you’ll be volun-told!

The committee was formed and the work had begun

No one among them had even a clue where to start

Where do you begin to change someone’s heart

One member declared that even with the gallows being a threat

People would run rather than give what is theirs and go into debt

Another one argued — How could it be

Everyone on our roles is extremely wealthy

Then the counselor piped up

If we give what we have

Perhaps we’ll receive

Even more than we had

That was a concept that had never been tried

The choice is yours to either try it or die

Our very lives depend on our success

We have all worked hard and earned more or less

And have always been abundantly blessed

Obviously the King knows more than us

Let’s not do this by force but rather … just trust

Consider this – We haven’t been forcibly taxed

The decree only states that we ask

Each and every citizen of MoreOrLess

To voluntarily give and be joyfully blessed

Then the Banker rose to speak next

The King’s decree is onerous indeed

I have nineteen children to feed

Is this a request … or is this just a test?

Exhausted from trying to think their way through

These volun-told men didn’t know what to do

For the first time fear entered the kingdom of MoreOrLess

This unknown invisible foe caused insurmountable stress

Exhausted and emptied for days without rest

Suddenly they realized the solution might be easily met

If they only first tried to give to one another instead

The first to admit he’d be willing to give

Would at least get to live

The Banker surrendered and opened his purse

And to his surprise something warm happened inside

A feeling so great he couldn’t give it a price

The more that he gave they greater it grew

Without haste they began to give to each other

And all beamed with delight

Their coffers never emptied –

And their hearts overflowed

The King was so pleased he issued a new decree

He promised to never let any of his subjects hunger or thirst

As long as they kept another one first –

As a wise one one of old once declared –

Don’t ever think that you are less

Only think of your self less

And you will always be blessed
