A Birthday Blessing to Reach Across the Veil   1 comment

Today’s the day my ‘Tazel was born

Her purpose God only knew

That one day she’d become the one

To love and care for me

A toddler without a mom

Her heart reached into mine

To become the one I’d call ‘Tazel not Mom

Yet still to me, then and now, the same

No matter what the name

Not born to her by flesh

But born to her by love

Lord temper me

Aligned with Thee

I’m not there yet … but I know God is both here with me now on this undecided shore, and at the same time faithfully watching and waiting for me in that place of victory where I soon hope to be …   Leave a comment

Victory may be a stone’s throw away

But first we have to pick up the stone, and then throw it…

Measuring the distance between here and a successful outcome …

Nothing happens in this lifetime without our participation

First we see – focus on our vision

How long … Set the clock

Execute … Faith with Works

We’re not done yet — Most important, is not what we receive, but what we give – This is the fruit of our labor as well…

When Hardships are Really a Blessing   Leave a comment

Got home late this afternoon in CT. It was forty degrees in the house.  Heat had gone off…Who knows when?  We had been gone for five days.

Thank God nothing froze except us waiting for the house to warm up. I have great compassion tonight for those who have no home and whose best means of staying warm is next to an open fire on a cold winter’s night.

How blessed are we to flip a switch and have a fire – to turn a faucet and draw a hot bath – and know the situation is only temporary – A hot dinner, a cup of licorice rooibos, and five hours later we’re up to 68 degrees – Humble and most grateful this cold winter’s night –

Gratitude is our Hallmark   Leave a comment

Thank you God for those days when winds do not prevail

And life does not deliver unexpected blows

Moments in between premeditated moments where Peace regains Her throne

Standing at the water’s edge surrendered to the lazy rhythmic tide

Waves slowly lapping as if water could be napping

Exhausted by her storms

More to be Grateful for   Leave a comment

Today our housekeeper, Jennie asked if I could pick up a driver’s manual for her. I was on my way to Dennis, MA anyway which was about ten miles from the motor vehicle department. Although, it did add another unplanned item on my list for the day.

As I was processing my inner annoyance to this and trying to realign my thinking, as to doing something good for someone else, a deer ran in front of my vehicle. The song on the radio was playing, “Don’t Try So Hard.” Gratefully, the deer seemed well enough to recover and ran off into the woods. Pieces of his hair are still under my hood but my car and I are okay.

After I picked up the driver’s manual and held it in my hands I suddenly realized how much there is for me to learn and to be grateful for.

Giving Back   Leave a comment

Before I set my day to business; outstanding invoices, taxes due – I’ll get myself right by starting with prayer –

Twice a month we pay the bills

At the beginning and in the middle

From what is earned, we whittle

With God as partner, there is never little

First withdrawal comes from thanks

Interest earned in Spirit’s bank

Gratitude wards off thoughts of lack

Fulfillment comes from giving back
